Is it illegal to have a cannabis plant?

In Austria, the possession and cultivation of cannabis plants are permitted up to a certain size and without flower formation. As long as the plants do not have a THC content higher than 0.3% and are grown only for ornamental purposes or for scientific research, it is legal.

In Germany, the Cannabis Act came into force on April 1st, which means that every adult citizen is allowed to grow 3 cannabis plants.

How many cannabis plants are you allowed to have in Austria?

In Austria, the cultivation of cannabis plants is generally permitted as long as they do not form flowers and are not used for THC extraction. There is no fixed number of plants you are allowed to possess as long as they do not flower. However, as soon as flowers are formed, the plants are classified under the law as illegal narcotics.

Can you grow hemp in the garden?

Yes, you can grow hemp in the garden as long as the legal requirements are met. The location should be sunny and the soil well-drained. Make sure that the plants have enough space to spread out and that they are protected from strong wind. A good place for cultivation in your own garden are spots where nettles or similar shrubs grow, as this is an indicator of good soil quality.

What does a cannabis plant need to grow?

Cannabis plants require sufficient light (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day or artificial light for indoor cultivation), water, well-draining soil, nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium are particularly important), and a stable temperature (between 20-30°C). Good air circulation is also important to prevent mold formation.
An NPK fertilizer is particularly effective, as it provides the main nutrients needed for the healthy growth and development of the plant. Be sure to use the fertilizer according to the manufacturer's instructions to avoid over-fertilization and to maintain the health of the plant.

What do cannabis plants not like?

Cannabis plants do not like waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot. Extreme temperatures, both too hot and too cold, can also impair growth. They are sensitive to pests and diseases, as well as too much or too little light. Furthermore, they do not like nutrient deficiencies or excesses.
Another point that the plants cannot stand is stress.

What stresses cannabis plants?

Cannabis plants can be stressed by several factors, including irregular watering, nutrient deficiencies or excesses, extreme temperatures, poor air circulation, pest infestation, and too little or too much light. When growing indoors, the box should not be opened during the dark phase because this is also a certain stress factor, as you are literally waking the plants from their sleep. Repotting or pruning can also cause short-term stress.

What does an overwatered cannabis plant look like?

An overwatered cannabis plant shows symptoms such as limp, drooping, yellow leaves (a result of constant overwatering) that can easily fall off. The soil is constantly damp and the roots can rot, leading to an unpleasant odor. The plant's growth slows down and it may become more susceptible to diseases.

Can you eat fresh hemp leaves?

Yes, fresh hemp leaves can be eaten and contain many nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. However, they have no psychoactive effect, as they contain hardly any THC. Hemp leaves can be added to smoothies or used in salads.

How do you recognize a female and a male plant?

Female cannabis plants develop flowers with white hairs (pistils) at the nodes, while male plants form pollen sacs that look like small balls. It is important to remove the male plants if you do not want seed formation, as they can pollinate the female plants and stimulate the flowers to produce seeds.
